The shared objective among the proposed technologies is to cultivate the perception that the story world and its content originate from the visitor’s surroundings rather than solely from their mobile device. Practically speaking, this entails the development of augmented reality methods and related technologies as part of the Echoes project.
To implement this vision, the project will pilot the experience reconstruction methodology and associated technological tools in creating two comprehensive interactive experiences for visitors exploring significant traditional settlements: the Old Town of Xanthi and the Historical Centre of Athens. The development of these experiences will inform the refinement of technological tools and establish best practices for the overarching experience reconstruction methodology. The ultimate goal is to establish universal tools and methodologies capable of supporting similar immersive experiences in culturally and historically important locations.
The Echoes project will introduce two primary digital tools:
- A web-based application for crafting interactive experiences.
- A mobile application for presenting these experiences to visitors.
These tools will integrate multiple individual technologies to provide visitors with a profound sense of immersion in a historical world that dynamically unfolds within their actual surroundings.
