Greetings from Xanthi

“I hope that I am leaving soon” a sender mentions on a postcard, picturing the Tabakhane (tannery) district of Xanthi, on June 7, 1910. In this area now lay the buildings of the Polytechnic School of the Democritus University of Thrace and the famous. The bridge at the front of the picture stopped being used after 1913, when the secondary bed of the Kosynthos river was dried up and the islet of Kanaras, where the tanneries were located, ceased to be surrounded by water.
