The Entry of King Otto of Greece in Athens
King Otto arrived in Athens on December 1st, 1834. The local notable I. Vlachos offered him salt and bread, and then the new king attended a Te Deum service in the church of Saint George (present-day Temple of Hephaestus in Thiseio). It was a thunderous welcome as the air reverberated with the sound of cannon fire, gunfire, and the cheering of the assembled crowds.
