Otto’s cannons
Loudovikou Square (today’s Kotzia Square) hosted almost all of the kingdom’s artillery. According to French journalist Edmond About, there was a hangar to shelter the twelve small cannons responsible for protecting Greece in the event of war. The guests at the Hotel D’Angleterre overlooking the square could enjoy their breakfast, gazing at the picturesque soldiers wearing their foustanellas and blue vests guarding the cannons.
