Telegram of the Bishop of Xanthi
After the assassination of King George the 1st in Thessaloniki on March 18th, a #telegram, the absolute device of transmitting information through the transfer of sounds by wire or radio waves, was sent from the Bishop of Xanthi, Anthimos (1862-1922), and various Unions of the Greek Community to Prime Minister E. Venizelos. The Bishop expresses his condolences in the document for the unexpected death of the king, which plunged “the entire nation into inconsolable sorrow.”
