The Metropolitan Mansion of Xanthi

Metropolitan Mansion (Metropolis Square). An “imposing building bult in 1896 in a neoclassical style with neo-renaissance decorative elements. It was built by the Bishop Joachim Sgouros with contributions from the Greek Orthodox community”. The Matsinis School, nowadays known as the 1st Primary School, lies to the left. “It is a Neoclassical style building that was erected in 1861, thanks to the donation by Michael Metaxas Matsinis, a great benefactor of the city”.
