The earliest eyewitness accounts claimed that the people gathered in front of the palace and shouted \u201cLong live the Constitution\u201d, while the army defended Otto, crying \u201cLong live the king\u201d. The reality was different. The military actively participated in the revolution and demanded a constitution, while the people sat in silence and watched what was happening from the safety of the square.
