The polonaise and the kalamatianos
The official dances in the palace allowed the royal couple and their guests to have a good time and escape the monotony of daily life. The polonaise was a perennial favourite, but soon Amalia also introduced the Kalamatianos. Alcohol was prohibited to protect everyone’s dignity. However, the guests did not find it difficult to have fun and display their new dresses and impressive jewellery pieces.
