The objective of the Echoes project is to design and develop technological tools and methodologies to create interactive content for visitors at cultural sites, particularly those exploring traditional settlements. This is achieved through the innovative approach of experience reconstruction and the integration of cutting-edge technologies, with a specific emphasis on 3D sound. Experience reconstruction entails utilising historical sources to construct a narrative world with characters, plotlines, and events that vividly recreate the life and historical significance of the settlement. Visitors engage with this story world through a mobile application that goes beyond traditional audiovisual content, incorporating immersive technological applications like 3D sound and panoramic sketches. The overarching goal is to immerse visitors in a seamless experience where the content originates from the surrounding space rather than solely from their mobile devices. As part of the project, two pilot experiences will be developed for the Old Town of Xanthi and the Historic Centre of Athens. These pilot experiences will serve as a blueprint for creating comprehensive technological tools and methodologies to produce and present similar immersive experiences at other historically and culturally significant sites.
