Agia Irini Square was the transport hub of the newly established capital. Countless carts were parked here, waiting to serve residents and visitors. But for the locals in the surrounding houses, things were quite unpleasant. Whenever they opened the windows, an overwhelming odour of stable invaded their rooms along with the horses’ neighs and snorts.
