King Otto at the theatre
Otto loved the theatre and attended performances as often as he could. Choices, of course, were not always first-rate. The theatre usually hosted little-known lyrical troupes outside the city and resembled a dovecote in the wilderness. The performances were constantly interrupted by the sound of pistols and the wild cries of the spectators who crammed into the wooden shack they called the theatre.
