Oil painting depicting Hydragogiou Street

The oil painting by Xanthi’s painter Kryonas Sergenlidis (Komotini 1947 – Xanthi 2020) depicts a typical folk house on Hydragogiou Street of the old town, within the neighborhood of the same name. The building was likely built in the second half of the 19th century, featuring a stone ground floor and an upper floor with the characteristic continuous architectural projections. Hydragogiou (Aqueduct) Street got its name because it leads to the old aqueduct of Xanthi. It possesses the typical characteristics of the streets of the old town, i.e. narrow width and series of turns.
