Piraeus Street

Piraeus Street was broad and beautiful but could quickly become a nightmare. An inexperienced driver could panic and lose control of the cart, threatening to throw diplomats or travellers against the remains of Themistocles’ Long Walls or in the dry riverbed of Cephissus. Great terror could also overwhelm the horses if they encountered a camel crossing the road.
