The bog

The traveller who took Piraeus Street came in contact with an Athens substantially different from the one we know today. Most carts and carriages were old and rattled worryingly (they often wholly fell apart on the go). If the horses galloped too fast, they would raise dust clouds covering everything. And between Piraeus and Athens stretched a swamp, which forced the loaded camels that frequented the road to go around.
