The Kontostavlos residence

The Kontostavlos residence (it occupied the site of today’s Old Parliament) was among the largest and most comfortable houses in Athens. It served as the royal residence of Otto from 1834 to 1836. It had an imposing octagonal banquet hall with a capacity of four hundred people, so the streets around the building were often filled with laughter and music emanating from the building. However, there was often a shortage of skilled dancers, so the Master of Ceremonies was obliged to look for them among public employees.
