The Mega Kin Cinema
The Mitropoleos district was traditionally the area where people from the city’s bourgeoisie class lived. At the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th century, this area was the center of the nightlife in the city of Xanthi. Among the various entertainment outlets that operated there was the Mega Kin cinema and the Apollo Theatre. The cinema, the massive building which can be seen in the center of the photo, initially belonged to an Ottoman, while in 1911 it was bought by Victor Fernandez, director of the Commercial Company of Salonica. In the following years, after the integration of the region into the Greek state, it operated again as a cinema under the name of Elysia till the ‘80s.
