The tobacco warehouses

“In the middle of the 19th century… Xanthi rapidly developed into an international center for the processing and trading of its famous, for its quality, tobacco… The #tobaccowarehouses of Xanthi were built on the plain, to the southeast of the old city and were a distinct district clearly separated from the central commercial area and the residential area of the bourgeoisie… The area… is perhaps the best-preserved architectural ensemble of its kind in all of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, with significant historical, cultural and aesthetic value”.
