Georgiou Stavrou Street is in the foreground. The photo was most likely taken from the National Bank branch building, which is where the -now pedestrian only- street leads. The 28th of October Street (former Kavala Str.), the Konstantinos Benis Str., the Municipal Market, built in 1940, and the central square clock tower can be seen in the background. The commercial and economic activity of Xanthi residents is still concentrated in this area.
